Cathy L. Fauntleroy-Jones Obituary (1955 - 2025)

Cathy Lynette Fauntleroy was born on September 28, 1955, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Arthur Fauntleroy and Lucinda (Yates) Fauntleroy. She spent her childhood between Louisville, KY, and Dover, DE. Cathy was a proud graduate of Central High School’s Class of 1973. Cathy honorably served her country in the United States Army, receiving her honorable discharge in 1978. She later dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse; where her compassion, humor, and strength touched countless lives. A woman of many gifts, Cathy played the saxophone in the Dover High School band and was a trained pianist. Music remained a lifelong joy and an expression of her spirit. She found joy in the soulful sounds of Parliament-Funkadelic, Blue Magic, and other timeless classics. Cathy lived boldly, loved fiercely, and laughed freely. Cathy also enjoyed traveling, trying new foods, tending to her plants, and showcasing her love of fashion with her vibrant and unique sense of style. Cathy’s personality was unforgettable, feisty, funny, and free-spirited. She had a heart big enough to embrace everyone she loved. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents and her former husband, Charles A. Jones. She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Airica and Conrad (Shante); her bonus daughters, Connie, Vonda (Tracy), and Nikki; her sister, Shari D. Fauntleroy; her nephew, Phillip A. Fauntleroy; a special brother/cousin Donald Averiett, nieces: Marvette Lykes Robinson (Vinny); Terri Bass (Joseph); and Tonya Lewis (Gilbert), ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Cathy shared a special, unbreakable bond with her grandson Airick “Redman” as she affectionately called him. Her beloved partner in laughter, travel, and seafood feasts. She is also lovingly remembered by her former partner and son’s father, Conrad McCoy, and by her lifelong friends: Laura Jamison Fennell, Eartha Waley Taylor, Bonnie Guy, and Peggy Graves who each walked with her through every season of life. Her legacy is one of resilience, authenticity, creativity, and a life lived fully and beautifully.
