Denise Daniel

–

Dover , Delaware

It is with both broken hearts and deep gratitude that we honor the life of Denise Tunisha Daniel — our sister, our anchor, and the glue that held our family so lovingly together.

In addition to being the heart of our family, Denise had a deep love for serving others while in Delaware. She dedicated much of her time to community service through churches, soup kitchens, and shelters—quietly and consistently showing up for those in need.

Her compassion extended beyond our family into the world, and she served with humility and joy. It is in Delaware where she cultivated deep relationships with friends that became like family there.

When last employed, she was a dedicated employee of the State of Delaware, where her work ethic and kindness were known by many.

Denise was the definition of an overcomer. She bravely beat breast cancer 15 years ago and pushed through her 2020 ovarian cancer diagnosis and other health challenges with a grace that humbled us all. If you were watching closely, you saw a masterclass in how to live through adversity — how to face pain and setbacks with unwavering courage and an open heart.

She was the heartbeat of our family — always checking in, keeping us connected, and making sure we never drifted too far apart. Ma and Dad would be proud of the way she stepped into that role with tenderness and quiet strength. Her caring and selfless nature made everyone around her feel seen, supported, and deeply loved.

Denise never lost her joy or her humor, even when life gave her every reason to. Her roots in Martha’s Vineyard remained a cherished part of her identity, and at some point, we will gather there as a family to celebrate her life. Until then, we remember her in the everyday — in the laughter, the resilience, and the way we show up for one another.

Denise is predeceased by her loving parents, Edward T. Daniel Sr. and Eula Mae Daniel, her oldest brother Richard O. Daniel, oldest sister Marion Rascoe, sister-in-law Jacqueline Daniel and nephew Stephen Gilchrest.

She leaves behind her brothers Edward (Teddy) T. Daniel Jr. and his wife Nilsa, Frank S. Daniel and his wife Renee, Robert (Bobby) H. Daniel, Peter (Pete) Daniel, Michael (Smooth) Daniel; and her sister-in-law Deborah Daniel and sisters Beverly Daniel and Kelly (Daniel) Pough and her husband John, her sister-friend Charley Roberson in addition to her former long-time partner.

Denise also leaves behind a tribe of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who adored her deeply, knowing they were always safe and loved in her presence.

We are thankful to all of you who lovingly supported, cared for, encouraged, uplifted, prayed for, and financially sowed into her life during her journey here on earth.

As we continue to process this loss, we invite you to join us in honoring her memory. Please share your stories, photos, and memories of Denise — we would be so grateful to know how she touched your life too.

P.S. Her photo was lovingly chosen to reflect the light that shined through her life even in the midst of life’s battles. Her unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, gave her strength, hope, and the ability to smile through it all. Her inner joy was real. Her glow was divine.
