Eugene’s Life Journey

Eugene Richardson, affectionately known as “Gino,” was born on January 1, 1953, in Santee, South Carolina, the oldest of seven children. He spent his early years between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Santee, South Carolina, primarily growing up in Philadelphia.

At the age of 20, Gino joined the United States Marine Corps. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and later received an honorable discharge for his dedication to his country.

After returning home, Gino built a life centered around hard work, faith, and family. He worked in the construction industry for more than 30 years, beginning as a laborer and eventually working his way up to foreman before retiring. Gino also worked as a cab driver for more than 30 years. Over time, he became everyone’s favorite cab driver, known for his cleanliness, professionalism, dependability, and warm spirit. Many people would specifically request Gino for both local and long-distance rides.

Gino was known for his hard work, dedication, generosity, respect, and deep spirituality. He loved God wholeheartedly, and anyone who encountered him could feel his faith through the way he treated others. He was always willing to help family, friends, charities, and even strangers in their time of need.

Gino was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Richardson Sr.; his mother, Justine Phillips Richardson; his brother, David Richardson; his sister, Ethel Richardson; his first wife, Eunice Richardson; his second wife, Cloteal Bumbrey-Richardson, and stepson Markquell Bumbrey.
