It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary J. Maddox, who departed this life on June 2, 2026, at the age of 78. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we celebrate a life filled with love, service, strength, and unwavering devotion to family.
Born on October 15, 1947, Gary was the beloved son of LorieLee Tyler and James Maddox, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a man known for his kindness, wisdom, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others. Gary touched countless lives through his generosity, humor, and compassionate spirit. His presence brought comfort and joy to family gatherings, and his legacy will continue to live on through the many people who were blessed to know and love him.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1974. His military service reflected the dedication, discipline, and sense of duty that he carried throughout his life. He was proud to have served his nation and remained grateful for the experiences and friendships he gained during his years in the Navy.
Gary’s life was profoundly influenced by Dorothy Madden and Lucy Maddox, the two women who lovingly raised him and whom he cherished as his mothers. Their love, guidance, and support helped shape the man he became. In return, Gary remained devoted to them throughout their lives and lovingly cared for both women during their illnesses. His compassion, loyalty, and selflessness were evident in the care and dedication he provided to them, reflecting the loving nature that defined his life.
Above all else, Gary treasured his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend who found immense joy in spending time with those he loved. His wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Gary shared a special bond with his only goddaughter, Bobby Speight, with whom he spent countless cherished moments throughout her life. Their relationship was one of love, guidance, and unwavering support, and she held a very special place in his heart.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Pamela Maddox of Greenwood, Delaware, Ericka Maddox of Harrington, Delaware, Gary Maddox of Seaford, Delaware, and Garren Maddox of Wilmington, Delaware. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Ayonna Maddox, Jordan Maddox, Taylor West, LaTaija Maddox, Tyonna Little, Jada Maddox, Jaden Hicks, Jaden Thomas, Anthony Selby, Na’eem Brown, Carter Maddox, and Caiden Maddox.
