It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joell T. Johnson, a unique soul who graced this earth from September 2, 1975, to March 16, 2024. Born in Queens, New York, and later a resident of Dover, Delaware, Joell embodied an empowering spirit that touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was an individual whose strength of character and zest for life were truly remarkable. Joell was never one to be confined by societal norms or expectations. Her life was a testament to Oscar Wilde's quote, "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Joell embraced her individuality and used her distinctive qualities to make an indelible impression on those around her. Though she never sought employment, Joell found joy and fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life. She was a beacon of light and a source of inspiration to many. Joell is survived by her loving father, Joseph Berry, her devoted daughter, Xhalajha Johnson, and her adoring cousins, Robert Puryear and Tanya Fruits, as well as her caring uncle, Walden Berry and a host of other loving family members and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Bonita Grate. Joell's passing leaves a void in our hearts, but our memories of her continue to shine brightly, reminding us to live life authentically and passionately, just as she did. A memorial celebration in Joel’s honor will be held at a later time and date to be announced once details are available.
