Leon Deshields III

–

Newport, Delaware

Leon Matthew Deshields III passed on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at home while in bed. Leon was born on February 7, 1964, in Lewes Delaware, the son of Leon Deshields, Jr., and Eula Deshields. He enjoyed working with his hands, eating good food, and talking smack, especially over a game of spades. He had an ability to make himself known upon entering a room, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone around him, and being willing to give you the shirt off his back.

In 1982 Leon graduated from Dover High School, had his first child, and joined the military shortly after to provide for his family. During his time served, Leon was part of Fort Campbell’s 101st Airborne, the Army’s only Air Assault Division and received both the Good Conduct and Army Achievement Medals. After leaving the military, he took courses under the Electrical Engineering Program at Delaware Technical Community College.

With the knowledge gained and his life experiences, Leon went on to work in the field of construction for many years. He passed away as his own boss of his business, Deshields General Contracting.

When Leon wasn’t lending a helping hand to family and friends, he spent his time doing exactly what he wanted as he was the kind of man that marched to the beat of his own drum. He enjoyed listening to love songs and Tupac (he was a lover AND fighter) and was a die-hard Cowboys fan.

Leon was preceded in death by his brothers, Vincent McNair and Larry Goode; and aunts and uncles, Sarah Basnight, Mary Spruill, James Spruill, and John Body.

Leon leaves to mourn: his parents, Leon and Eula Deshields of Delaware; siblings; Evangeline Deshields of Delaware, Anecia Jones (Ricardo) of Georgia, Vonnaire Brown of Georgia, Tynita Deshields of Delaware, Vivian Credit (Charles) of Washington, Timothy Deshields (Kim) of Delaware, and Melissa Giddens (Terraine) of Delaware; children, Randall Crame of Delaware, Lenea Deshields of Delaware, and Nya Aponte Deshields of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Le’Ane and Tyrell, Jr., of Delaware; aunts and uncles, Angeline Tribbit (James) of Delaware, Juanita Knox (Andrew) of Delaware, Freddie Deshields (Mary) of New Jersey, and Steven Deshields of Delaware; nephews, Marques Deshields, Antonio Deshields, Dorian Deshields (Jaimee), Jadon Deshields, and Zion Deshields of Delaware; nieces, Janea Deshields, Brittney Giddens, and Roszlynn Giddens-Travers (Isaiah) of Delaware; and a host of cousins, great nieces, and nephews that he loved very much.
