Smyrna, Delaware

Her Life’s Journey

Lois E. Barnaby was born on April 15, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, at Cumberland Hospital to her devoted parents, Missionary Rita Warren and Reverend Edward Warren, Sr. Together, they instilled in their children a strong foundation of faith through missionary work and evangelism.

Lois graduated from Clara Barton High School in Brooklyn and went on to earn her credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She later relocated to Dover, Delaware, where she worked for Campbell’s Soup Company until her retirement. Always passionate about helping others, she furthered her education by earning an associate’s degree in social work from Delaware Technical Community College, leading to a meaningful career with the Delaware Housing Authority.

Lois was a devout Christian and an avid Bible reader. She read her scriptures daily and loved the Lord. A natural-born leader with a vibrant spirit, Lois was known for her strength, resilience, and commitment to service. Her no-nonsense attitude made her a powerful advocate in her community, while her warmth shone through in more personal moments. Those who truly knew her appreciated her unwavering dedication to helping others succeed and her ability to uplift with both humor and wisdom. Lois embodied the perfect balance of strength and compassion, earning the respect, admiration, and love of many. Lois had many pets over the years, but her Fur Baby “Brooklyn” held a special place in her heart.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Reverend Edward and Rita Warren; her siblings Anna March, Patricia Kelly, Myra Rosemont, James Baynard, and Edward “Bubbie” Warren; her cherished uncle, Raymond “Chubbie” Baynard, who was like a father to her; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Lois leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her children: Lloyd Barnaby, Rose Marie Pope, Benjamin Barnaby, Ronald Smallwood, Derrick Smallwood, Ricardo Castro, Nakita Barnaby, and bonus daughter Lazette Allen; four daughters-in-law Aaliyah Castro, Joy Barnaby, Claret Smallwood, and Vanessa Barnaby; one son-in-law Jerry Pope; two sisters Cynthia Warren (Dover, DE) and Rosalind Winns (Brooklyn, NY); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
