The Journey of a Life Well Lived
Rebecca Anita Burton, daughter of Wilroy and Henrietta Justice, was called from labor to reward on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, surrounded by family.
Rebecca was the eleventh of sixteen children, born in Millsboro, Delaware on August 10, 1956. Like the other fifteen, Rebecca received her Christian foundation at Dickerson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and gave her life to Christ.
Rebecca received her elementary education at Millsboro School 204c and graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1973. She attended Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, Delaware.
Rebecca’s early employment began with Townsends, then on to the Stockley Center, where she worked over ten years as an attendant in the Mental Ward. After retirement, she worked part-time at Sussex Central High School, in Georgetown, Delaware.
Rebecca never tried to copy anyone, she had her own mind as to how she wanted to do things. During her high school years, Rebecca was very particular about fashion and her hair, due to having a big afro. She loved playing softball and was the short-stop during family gatherings. One thing she always shared with family and others, is she did not have cooking skills. She loved her family and enjoyed the time spent with everyone.
Rebecca later became a member of Pentecostal Church of God of Lincoln, Inc. in Millsboro, DE. She loved the church and did all she could to assist wherever needed, despite her illness.
Affectionately known as “Sister Becky,” she maintained a joyful spirit that blessed all who knew her. She loved God, His people, and cherished fellowshipping with her church family. Whether in worship services, church dinners, or special gatherings, her warm smile and encouraging presence were always welcomed.
Sister Becky faithfully sang in the Combined Choir for many years and served on the kitchen preparation team, helped with church dinners and special events. She worked alongside her sisters in Christ in caring for the church and had a special love for children, often inviting and bringing them to Sunday School. Whatever good her hands found to do, she did wholeheartedly. Her life was a beautiful example of faithful service, Christian love, and devotion to God. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her church family.
In memory and celebration of her life, Rebecca leaves six brothers: Harold of Millsboro, DE; Wilbur (Beatrice) of Dover, DE; J. Stanley (Darlene) of Dover, DE; Lester of Salisbury, MD; Anthony (Elizabeth) of Newark, DE; and Emanuel (Virgie) of New Castle, DE; four sisters: Charlotte (Melvin) of Georgetown, DE; Judy (Maurice) of Federalsburg, MD; Iris (Richard) of New Castle, DE; and Yvette (Floyd) of Preston, MD, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Wilroy and Henrietta; brothers, Clarence, John, William, and Henry; and sister, Connie.
Lovingly Submitted
