Ricardo's Journey

Ricardo Fletcher Reid was born on February 1, 1969, at Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, Delaware, to the late Julia Ann Reid and Thomas Reid, Sr. Ricardo spent his younger years in Slaughter Neck with his brothers and sisters. He attended Cape Henlopen High School, where he excelled as an athlete in football, basketball, and baseball.

Ricardo also loved playing spades with family and friends—and, in true Ricardo fashion, he was known to cheat a little while doing it. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Over the years, he worked for several companies and organizations, including ConAgra Foods, OA Newton, Woodbridge School District, and Harrington Casino. Ricardo was especially well known for Reid's Blacktop Court and for setting up tournaments that brought the community together. He was a mentor to many and served as a foster parent to well over 115 children throughout the years. Ricardo will truly be missed.

Ricardo was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherelle Reid.

Ricardo is survived by his wife, Elvaray; his children, stepson James Benson of Seaford, DE; daughter Nicole Reid of Richmond, VA; son Justin Benson-Reid of Wilmington, DE; and daughter Kenisha Reid of Millsboro, DE; 10 grandchildren; and two special girls, Rayona Benson and Regena Snowden-Benson.

He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Emerill Neal of Stone Mountain, GA; Barbara Cannon of Dover, DE; Brenda Weaver (Derrick) of Seaford, DE; Cnythia Childs (David) of Harrington, DE; Thomas Reid Jr. (Juliet) of Seaford, DE; Garfield Reid (Delores) of Magnolia, DE; Cherrywood Reid (Clara Ann) of Lincoln, DE; Linwood Reid (Gail) of Millsboro, DE; and Trimell Reid of Stone Mountain, GA. He is also survived by two aunts, Juanita Drummond and Marguerite Wallace, both of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
