Smyrna, Delaware
Hello, dear ones, this is Rosa or Momma Rosa as I have been well known. I have began my journey to the next life, departing this earthly realm on December 19th, 2024.
I made my entrance into the world on June 6th, 1943. I was the eldest of fifteen children born to Jasper and Lula Powe. After graduation, I lived in Baltimore, MD, then moved to Philadelphia, PA. I married William Rogers and we raised three children: Tyreece, Senetra and Maurice. I loved being a stay-at-home mother and I'm proud of the remarkable individuals they have become.
In 1985, I began working as an in-home nurse, rehabilitating private clients. Afterward, I began my career with Allegheny Valley School, where I first served as a rehabilitation assistant, then advanced to a supervisor and a shop stewart. I put my heart into my work knowing I could make a difference in the lives of our clients. After retirement, my daughter purchased a house in Smyrna, DE. I found contentment in taking care of the home, cooking up something tasty in the kitchen and could be heard humming while doing so. Music was a particular love as my siblings and I grew up singing in our home churches. I was honored to lend my voice to the Holy Light Gospel Choir at People's Baptist Church in Philadelphia where I also became a deaconess. I became a member of Frontline Ministries in Dover, DE.
As I reflect on my life, I am reminded of the verse from 2nd Timothy 4:7, "I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.” I have done just that. I tried to live my life with kindness, to bring joy to the people I have met along the way and leave the world a better place than I found it.
Preceding me in earthly departure was my husband, my parents, and my siblings Eddie Powe and Bertha Ector.
Left to meet me again are my children Tyreece, Senetra, and Maurice and his wife Miriam; my siblings Annie Ingram, Eloise Bennett, Celestine Lindsey, Fanny Young, Nancy Walker, Jasper Powe, Jr., John Powe, James Powe, Julius Powe, Jerry Powe, Linda McLaughlin, Bernard Powe; in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends and neighbors from my churches.
Please, remember me with love and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. I encourage you to share your memories of our great times together and upload photos to my memorial page. It will bring me great pleasure to know I live on in your hearts and minds.
Till we meet again, Rosa.
