Valorie Upshur

Valorie Bernice White Upshur was born May 15, 1955, to the late Robert James White Sr. and Ruthie Mae White in Toomsuba, Mississippi, and peacefully departed this life on April 8, 2025.

Valorie graduated from Jamaica High School in New York and lived in Germany for three years with her sister Patricia and her husband, Robert Brunson.

Valorie was employed by and retired from the State of New Jersey Division of Unemployment. After retirement, Valorie moved to Delaware and took on a part-time job at the ACME Market before retiring again.

Valorie was an excellent tailor, a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Lewes, Delaware, in which she served on the Missionary Board, and a devoted lifetime member of the IFAMM and Order of the Eastern Star. She was free-spirited and loved everyone, especially her family, whom she loved unconditionally.

In 1985, Valorie met her husband Isaac Upshur, the love of her life, and quickly became the sugar in his coffee. Over the years, Valorie and Isaac traveled across the world. Valorie was not one to let the grass grow under herfeet; she was driven by adventure.

Valorie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert James White Sr. and Ruthie Mae White, her brother, Tommy Gene White, her sister, Carolyn FayeWhite, and an incredibly special niece, Latrina Cotton.

Valorie was a devoted wife and leaves to cherish memories of her loving husband of 15 years, Isaac Upshur. Valorie is survived by her husband, Isaac Upshur, Milton, DE; mom, Rosie White, Trenton, NJ; sons: Reginald Muhammad (Annette), Sicklerville, NJ, William Woods (Irene), Wilmington, DE, Jeremiah Jones Ardenia), Trenton, NJ; daughters: Cassandra Taylor, Milton DE, Ida Mae Mae, Millsboro DE, Marcella Scott (Wayne), Milton DE, and Regina Jenkins, Tampa FL; sisters: Patricia Brunson (Robert), Homestead FL, Pearline (WG) Hubbard, Porterville MS, Debbie Grant(Lee), Meridian, MS, Hope White, Hamilton, NJ, Jackie Sanders, Moss Point, MS, Patricia Shanklin, Redfort, MI, Shirley Jones, Chicago, IL; brothers: Albert White (Joni), Bronx NY, Robert James White Jr., Detroit, MI, Ned White, Trenton, NJ, and Robert Afford (Betty) Toomsuba, MS; sisters-in-law: Gussie Upshur,
Trenton, NJ, and Karen Upshur, Seaford, DE; brothers-in-law: Michael Upshur (Inez), Milton, DE, and Terry Upshur (Wileen), Milton, DE.

Additionally, Valorie leaves behind three godchildren: Anthony Upshur Jr., Chamyra Upshur, and l'nai Sterile, 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.

To say Valorie wil be missed is not enough. We wil forever cherish her smile, laughter, love, and presence she selflessly shared.
